“Considering that this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% each of Petit Verdot and Malbec (along with bits of Petite Sirah and Syrah) was sourced from Paso Robles but bottled in Napa, the “Neighbor” part of this wine’s name makes sense-and tasting it explains the “Favorite” part. It’s very flavorful, with notes of black cherry and cassis and an acid structure that’s ready to rip, making it just perfect for restaurants.”

2021 My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon San Luis Obispo

In 2001, Eric and Lisa Jensen purchased 100 acres in Paso Robles, founding Booker Vineyards, followed by My Favorite Neighbor, initially focusing on farming high-quality grapes for nearby wineries. Eric started making wine on the side with his friend Justin Smith of Saxum and neighbor Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure before he and Lisa decided to create wines that would rival the best out of Napa Valley in their categories.

Established with unwavering commitment and a refusal to compromise, My Favorite Neighbor strikes a balance with impeccable ripe fruit, intense flavors, and sumptuous textures, presenting a formidable challenge to some of the finest $100 New World Cabernets.

Eric has consistently crafted wines from successive vintages that have garnered impressive mid-90-point scores, and his 2021 vintage stands as a remarkable successor, propelling his wine toward widespread recognition as a premier name in San Luis Obispo-area Cabernet Sauvignon.

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is smoking good, with a full-bodied, rich, opulent wine that has classic cassis and darker blue fruits as well as leafy tobacco, baking spice, and bouquet garni notes. This textured, ripe, sexy wine stays nicely balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s another awesome value.”

PASO ROBLES 2019

2019 Booker Oublie Red Blend Paso Robles
Eric and Lisa Jensen own 100 acres in Paso Robles, which they purchased more than two decades ago, intending to grow and sell premium fruit to nearby wineries. Eric worked alongside local legends Justin Smith and Stephan Asseo until he branched out independently and released his first vintage of Booker in 2005.

Eric’s objective has always involved the highest farming standards using organic and biodynamic methods and maintaining a harmonious balance in the vineyard. Rhône varietals thrive on their estate, and Oublié is the winery’s Châteauneuf du Pape-inspired blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Mother nature provided a remarkable growing season in 2019, showcasing Mourvèdre and giving this wine a noticeably bolder mouthfeel than past vintages, resulting in an undeniably impressive wine.

“The 2019 Oublié is a blend of 31% Syrah, 27% Mourvèdre, 4% Tannat and 4% Petite Sirah with a medium ruby-purple color. The nose offers gregarious mixed berry preserves and accents of potpourri, mint and fragrant earth. The palate offers juicy appeal and powerful fruit with loads of spice and floral perfume, bursts of freshness and firm, pleasantly rustic tannins, finishing very long.”

2019 Booker Fracture Syrah Paso Robles
In 2001, Eric and Lisa Jensen purchased 100 acres in Paso Robles and founded the Booker Vineyard with a keen focus on farming high-quality grapes for nearby wineries. Eric started making wine on the side with his friend Justin Smith of Saxum and his neighbor Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure for a few years before he and Lisa decided it was time to release their own expression of the Booker Vineyard.

The certified organic vineyard has a high concentration of limestone that causes fractures in the soils, leading to the name of their flagship wine. The Fracture is 100% Syrah and a selection of the softest wines aged in small French barriques, and the 2019 vintage shows gorgeous aromatics and deep flavors with a delightfully long finish.

“The 100% Syrah 2019 Fracture comes all from the Booker Estate Vineyard and is another pure, balanced, incredibly classy wine from this estate. Loads of darker fruits, ground black pepper, crushed stone, and scorched earth give way to a medium to full-bodied, powerful, concentrated Syrah that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15 years.”
