2020 Maison Harbour Bourgogne Chardonnay Cote D'Or
Colleen and Nick Harbour are North American natives who met while studying abroad in Luxembourg and returned to Europe in 2008 after university studies. They found themselves immersed in the local wine scene, leading to a passion for wine but a waning interest in their daily jobs. Nick and Colleen officially moved to Burgundy in 2011, where Nick attended wine school in Beaune while Colleen pursued an internship at Maison Champy, making lifelong friends that connected the couple with small growers’ vineyard parcels.

Nick and Colleen’s winemaking revolves around expertly farmed fruit from distinct parcels and a hands-off approach in the cellar, allowing the glorious Burgundian terroir to shine through in their wines. The 2020 Bourgogne Chardonnay Côte d’Or comes from vines just below the village of Puligny-Montrachet, matured for 16 months in neutral 228-liter barrels and stainless steel, promoting the purity of the fruit and the essence of this iconic vineyard location.

From vines just below the village of Puligny-Montrachet, this Bourgogne seriously over delivers. Aged for 16 months in neutral oak barrels and stainless steel tanks before bottling.”

RULLY 2020
WHITE BURGUNDY

2020 Maison Jessiaume Rully White Burgundy
Maison Jessiaume’s historic estate, established in 1850, is located in the Santenay region in the Côte de Beaune, with thirty-seven acres of vines planted and wines produced from 15 different appellations. They farm their vineyards organically, and the winemaking approach is minimal, with as little intervention as possible utilizing hand harvesting, hand sorting, ambient yeast fermentation, gravity flow, and natural clarification.

Rully is an AOC in the northern Côte Chalonnaise, giving soft, generous whites with “both the coolness and the polish of marble,” according to the Bourgogne Wine Board. Maison Jessiaume fermented the grapes for the 2020 Rully in oak, aged them on the lees for 12 months, and then transferred them to stainless steel for four to six months before bottling, resulting in a pure, focused wine with complex flavor intensity and delightful drinkability.

GUNDERSHEIMER RIESLING
RHEINHESSEN, GERMANY 2016

2016 Bossert Gundersheimer Riesling Rheinhessen Germany
Driven by a deep passion for their land, the Bossert family has been growing grapes since 1848, passing down their family’s winemaking philosophy to the youngest generation. Philipp and Johanna Bossert proudly represent the winery today after experience gained interning at several prestigious wineries in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. They’ve taken everything learned along the way and poured it into their wines which offer immense value.

The Riesling is grown in vineyards surrounding their hometown of Gundersheim and benefits from a rich soil that allows the grapes to mature slowly, reaching full aromatic development. Their 2016 vintage has aged gracefully and offers a wide range of aromatics and flavors with penetrating intensity and expert balance, mimicking many qualities I’d expect from a much more expensive offering.

LES PERRIÉRES 2019

2019 Sophie Cinier Macon-Fuisse Les Perrieres
Sophie Cinier took over her family’s small estate near Fuissé in 2000, immersing herself in farming while selling grapes to local producers. Five years later, Sophie’s passion for her vineyards extended into the cellar, and realizing the immense quality of her fruit, she produced her first vintage.

The region of Mâcon-Fuissé lies at the end of the most extended range in the Mâcconais, positioned on either side of Pouilly-Fuissé, lying within a topographical bowl of reef-like composites of limestone. Sandwiched in the middle of several Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards, Les Perrières contains vines averaging nearly 30 years, producing fruit with remarkable intensity and sophistication. Sophie fermented this wine using native yeasts before aging it in neutral oak for 22 months for an exquisite combination of richness and vibrancy, offering immense value.

Inspired by a small family property in Southern France, La Pitchoune Winery’s name translates to “the little one.” The winery is proud of its small size and production, which the owners consider their most significant asset because they can spend more time, attention, and focus to every bottle they produce.

Winemaker Andrew Berge’s Master’s degree in Agriculture gives him a deep understanding of geography, soil, and vines that are the foundation of his wines. The 2019 La Révolte Chardonnay was sourced from the Pratt and Falcon Crest Vineyards and hand-crafted using Old-World style techniques, including barrel fermentation without fining or filtering for opulent flavor and impeccable balance.

NV Mader Cremant D'Alsace Brut
Crémant d’Alsace is crafted in a traditional method and is one of France’s most consumed sparkling AOC wines due to its Champagne-level quality at a much friendlier price. By law, the fruit must be hand-harvested, spend a minimum of nine months on the lees inside the bottle, and spend a year in the bottle before release.

The vineyards of Domaine Mader were converted to organic farming in 2007, helping preserve the unique expression of Alsatian terroir, consisting of thirteen unique soil types. Mader’s Crémant d’Asace Brut is a blend of 30% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Blanc, and 20% Pinot Gris from the 2018 vintage with 15% reserve wine from the Domaine’s most noteworthy vintages, contributing depth and complexity.

DUTTON RANCH VINEYARD

2018 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch Vineyard
Donald Patz and James Hall were colleagues at Flora Springs Winery before a shared passion for wines with a sense of place brought them together to create Patz & Hall, one of California’s crown jewel Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers. In 1988 Patz & Hall was founded by Donald and Heather Patz, James Hall, and Anne Moses. The winery, to this day, maintains a reputation of excellence by consistently producing brilliant wines from some of Sonoma’s most renowned growers.

The Dutton Ranch vineyard is home to some of the oldest Chardonnay vines in western Sonoma County, with partial dry farming producing intensely concentrated berries. The 2018 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay is a blend of five clones- Hyde-Wente, Robert Young, Rued, UC Davis Clone 4, and Spring Mountain, aged in 35% new Burgundian French oak, giving the wine some spice while allowing the fruit to shine radiantly.

“James Hall selects the fruit for this wine from 11 blocks farmed by the Dutton family. Most of the vines are older plantings of heritage clones and selections, a mix that seems to respond to a slow, spontaneous fermentation and development in French oak barrels (35 percent new). The 2018 builds to a savory and ornate chardonnay, a wine with traction that digs into scents of violets and game, jasmine and butterscotch, giving a sweet impression without any actual sweetness. There’s yellow and orange citrus fruit, but the main impression is earthy, with notes of lobster mushroom and lobster broth in a mineral finish. It’s floral, clean, intense wine, with stature and resistance to oxygen. Decant it for crab Louis, or cellar it for years.”

2018 Agnes et Didier Dauvissat Chablis Burgundy France
Agnès and Didier Dauvissat were vineyard workers who dreamed of vinifying wine from vineyards they owned, so they bought and planted their first small plot of vines in 1987. Today they hold just over 30 acres of vineyards spread across Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru Beauroy, Bourgogne Rouge, and Crémant de Bourgogne, producing terroir-distinct wines from each appellation.

Dauvissat is a prominent name in the area, and Didier’s cousin, Vincent, of a respected Chablisienne estate nearby, mentored Didier. The stylistic similarities in their wines go beyond the last name. The 2018 Chablis has clean, pure fruit aromatics and a crisp minerality from fermentation in stainless steel, a hallmark of the region that’s created a demand for unoaked Chardonnay worldwide.
