2021 Ehlers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Jean Leducq St. Helena

Established in 1886, Ehlers Estate, located in one of Napa’s most elite neighborhoods, crafts beautiful wines reminiscent of an older Napa Valley style marked by robust structure, balance, and a palpable sense of place. The historic estate and stone winery were established in the late 1800s by Bernard Ehlers and purchased by the Leducq family in 1987, also the founders of the Leducq Foundation for Cardiovascular Research.

Mike Wolf, one of the leading viticulture experts in Napa Valley, whose past and present clients include To Kalon, Scarecrow, and Vine Hill Ranch, manages the vineyard. The Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single block on the estate and pays tribute to founder Jean Leducq’s legacy and strong work ethic.

The 2021 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, and though young, it is powerfully seductive on the first sip and takes your palate on a rollercoaster ride of flavor complexity, ending in a long, smooth finish with a lasting impression.

“The Ehlers Estate 2021 Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon has incredible depth and opens with aromas of volcanic rocks, petrichor, bergamot, boysenberry, melted chocolate, and cigar box. On the palate, the wine has flavors of black cherry, blackberry, baking spices, and dusty minerality. The wine has a robust flavor intensity with a long finish that carries on and on with a silky texture. This wine is outstanding now and will improve with a few years of age if you can stand to hold onto it that long.”

ST. HELENA 2019

2019 Ehlers Estate 1886 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena
Established in 1886, Ehlers Estate, located in one of Napa’s most elite neighborhoods, sits in the narrowest part of the Valley, where moderating sea breezes ensure a slow and even ripening. Mike Wolf, one of the leading viticulture experts in Napa Valley, whose past and present clients include To Kalon, Scarecrow, and Vine Hill Ranch, manages the vineyard.

Ehlers winemaker Laura Díaz Muñoz carefully tastes through every barrel and selects the best for the winery’s flagship wine, 1886, which honors the completion year of the historic stone winery. The 2019 release is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a near-perfect vintage and was aged for 22 months in French oak and is a prime example of the Estate vineyards and the dedication of Ehlers’ passionate team.

Flanked by vineyards like AXR and nearby Vineyard 29 Aida, whose top Cabs soar North of $250, Ehlers 1886 stands out as a value for the neighborhood, delivering outrageous quality.

2018 NAPA VALLEY

2018 Ellman Brothers Blend Napa Valley
Ellman’s 20-acre vineyard sits at the base of Atlas Peak in an ancient riverbed. It reaps the rewards of having soils that uniquely combine the traits of volcanic hillside material with the alluvial ground of the valley floor. The vineyard, managed by Mike Wolf, one of the leading viticulture experts in Napa Valley, is carved into the rocky foothills and planted to a suitcase-clone of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1999, delivering old-world-style wines that are brilliant to taste.

Brought to life by winemaker Andy Erickson, who made Screaming Eagle from 2005 – 2010, and Mayacamas, which ranked #2 in the 2019 Wine Spectator Top 100, Ellman wines represent Andy’s cumulative experience, combined with expert farming and a proprietor’s distinct vision. Brother’s Blend, named after the Ellman brothers Neil and Lance, is nearly 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, accentuated with Merlot, and is aged in barrels for 22 months, producing a super smooth red that’s as Vinous writes, “dense, plush and explosive,” and “has so much to offer.”

“Blended with 22% Merlot and 3% Malbec, this is an impressively made wine from the Rutherford estate. Densely concentrated, it offers youthfully grippy layers of black olive, dark cherry and plum, with underlying earthiness. The finish takes on additional notes of clove, black pepper and tobacco.”

2016 Arietta Quartet Proprietary Red

ARIETTA

2016 QUARTET
PROPRIETARY RED

Harmonious is the first word that comes to mind when tasting Arietta’s Quartet. The wine brings together four Bordeaux varietals in a way that perfectly complements, supports, and defines one-another. The blend was composed by Andy Erickson, who made Screaming Eagle from ’05 – ’10, and he also makes Mayacamas, which just ranked #2 in the recent Wine Spectator Top 100. With 95 Points and a spot on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100, don’t miss this vintage of Arietta Quartet.

Arietta built this superior blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc around a core of Coombsville fruit that’s paired with carefully chosen sites in Carneros and Calistoga. The 2016 benefits from two new Cabernet Vineyards in Southern Napa that are both managed by one of Napa Valley’s top viticulturists, Mike Wolf.

The 2016 was finely tuned for 22 months in oak and made its entrance from one of Napa Valley’s most exceptional vintages, and one that the Wine Spectator ranks as the highest-rated vintage since 1997. If you’re looking for a stunningly complex and deeply hedonistic blend to add to your cellar, this one is absolutely singing.
