MOON MOUNTAIN DISTRICT 2013

2013 Korbin Kameron Kristen Proprietary Red Moon Mountain District
Korbin Kameron’s success results from continuous improvement to their Estate, relentless drive, and talent, combining the skills of 100-Point winemaker Timothy Milos with “the ubiquitous wizard of sustainable winemaking,” Phil Coturri, who has over 35 years of knowledge of organic and biodynamic farming. The Moonridge Vineyard hovers high above the valley floor at Mt. Veeder’s peak at 2,300 feet elevation and is sustainably farmed by Phil, resulting in a pure and natural expression of concentrated mountain fruit.

Tim creates wines with the family’s vision in mind, calling on traditional winemaking practices and a minimalist approach, producing terroir-driven wines with distinctive vineyard characteristics. The Kristin Proprietary Red Blend is a Bordeaux style blend with nine years of age that’s aided the evolution of the wine, giving silky-smooth tannins, lush fruit, and sweet baking spices along with an impressive intensity that makes a lasting impression.

“The 2013 Korbin Kameron Proprietary Red Blend Kristin is exquisite yet powerful, opening with lavender, rose petals, black cherries, baker’s chocolate, cayenne pepper, and petrichor. On the palate, the wine is soft and supple with flavors of blueberry pie, marzipan, and sweet cloves. This wine is at a sweet spot in its development but still has aging potential due to its intensely concentrated mountain fruit.”

2018 Ty Caton Cabernet Sauvignon Moon Mountain District
Devoted to unveiling Moon Mountain Cabernet’s most captivating characteristics, Ty Caton developed his vineyard adjacent to world-class sites like Monte Rosso, planting multiple blocks, separated by soil type, elevation, and sun exposure. His Estate Cabernet Sauvignon offers a well-rounded depiction of the entire vineyard, capturing Ty’s commitment to land stewardship and drive to bottle the best wine possible from his Estate.

Striving to produce wines of distinction, Ty’s vineyard on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder is carved into steeply contoured hillsides with well-drained red volcanic soils that have fresh, focused fruit with outstanding depth.

Ty’s 100% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is blended from a wide selection of his individually farmed blocks, representing the vineyard as a whole with balance, character, and sense of place. Aged for 15 months in French oak, the 2018 release is stunning at this price level.

2017 Ty Caton Estate Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon Moon Mountain District
Ty Caton created his Cabernet Collection to highlight the very best blocks within his Estate Vineyard on Moon Mountain. Ty’s Estate Knoll Cabernet is from a tiny half-acre block, which took over 80 jackhammer bits to plant the 559 vines. The resulting wine has penetrating dark fruits, remarkable depth, and character, and at 40% below retail, I recommend you grab some while you can.

Ty’s Vineyard is on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder, where the well-drained red volcanic soils are also home to icons like the Monte Rosso, which was made famous by Louis Martini, and Frederick’s Vineyard used by Turley.

Moon Mountain AVA Cabernets can combine the robust, hedonistic qualities found on Mount Veeder with the elegance and savory characteristics common on Spring Mountain. Ty’s 70 case production Estate Knoll Cabernet is a stunning example of just how great they can be, and at just $36/btl, you’ll savor every drop.

2015 Ty Caton "Ty's Red" Sonoma Proprietary RedYou may already be one of the many people who repeatedly orders case after case of Ty Caton wines from us, and if not, you might want to start. The reason being, Ty proves every vintage that great wine doesn’t need to be expensive.  His 2015 Proprietary Red has “crowd pleaser” written all over it.  A tell-tale sign of this wine’s popularity is made obvious by the number of bottles we drink personally (grin).  At under $25, this wine oozes with fun-filled charm as it serenades your senses with lush black raspberry fruit, chocolate covered cherries, holiday spices and Japanese tea.  Making a grand entrance from the newly recognized Moon Mountain AVA, which lies on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder, Ty Caton’s talent for blending will make you grin too.
Merging Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Merlot in a style that’s both intriguing and one that makes you want to come back for another sip, the 2015 is really drinking beautifully.  This wine is filled with qualities hard to find at this modest price point, so if you’re looking for a blend that delivers weekend quality at a weekday price, we’re certain you’ll like this one…
