NAPA VALLEY 2019

2019 Croze Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Croze Fine Wines produced its first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1998, built on a philosophy of elegance and balance, and 2019 marks its 20th year of production. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon combines grapes from Rutherford, Howell Mountain, and Oakville AVAs, including Oakville’s Money Ranch Road Vineyard, which became famous when it was the source of Napa’s first 100 Point wine.

Croze’s winemaker, Daniel Benton, intimately understands the vineyards he works with and elevates each plot’s finest attributes in his wines. The 2019 vintage matured for 28 months in French oak barrels, and while approachable and drinkable now, this wine has a structure worthy of additional aging in the cellar.

“The 2019 Croze Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a rich nose of sweet blackberries, milk chocolate, vibrant black currants, Spring violets, and vanilla bean. The penetrating palate follows by balancing richness and freshness with power and elegance, expressing these traits with concentrated red currants, ripe cassis, and nicely structured fine-grained fruit tannins. The lingering, rich flavors and mouth-quenching acidity carry these characteristics through to a long, fulfilling finish. This one keeps calling me back for more…”

2017 Worthy Sophias Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Worthy Sophia’s Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon is the second label of Axios, a premium Napa Cabernet producer named after the Greek word for ‘worthy.’ This Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend debuted in 2001 and has amassed a loyal following due to its ability to mirror qualities and characteristics that you’d expect from much higher-end bottlings. Sophia’s Cuvée is named after the proprietor’s daughter and is intricately fashioned around a Bordeaux-style blend by winemaker Robert Egelhoff.

Robert has prior experience as the Vineyard Manager for Beckstoffer Vineyards. He made wine for Bella Vista, Amizetta, and Robert Craig and crafted the Wine Spectator 1997 wine of the year, the David Arthur Elevation 1147 Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2017 Sophia’s Cuvée blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Petite Verdot and Merlot, providing incredible value in a wine from a winery with a strong pedigree for premier quality.

2018 MaCo Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Expert viticulturist Roberto Corona and wine aficionado Jesus Maciel created a dynamic equilibrium when they founded MaCo Vineyards in 2009. They’ve since developed a standard of excellence for Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District. The vineyards are located on the western side of Silverado Trail near Soda Canyon Road, facing east, receiving copious amounts of California sunshine before being cooled nightly by the region’s breezes from the San Pablo Bay, helping retain a bright acidity.

The second generation of MaCo Vineyards, Alvaro Camacho, pulled up to our tasting in his farm truck to present his family’s wines to our tasting panel, making it evident that he was serious about the MaCo Vineyards legacy. We knew the moment we tasted his Cabernet that his wines were the real deal, and based on the numerous requests for reorders, our customers agreed. We recently re-tasted his 2018 vintage Cabernet, and it’s developed beautifully in the bottle, so we jumped at the opportunity to share it with you again before the 2019 vintage is released.

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard comes from one of the greatest sites in the valley and is all varietal. Its ruby/purple color is followed by a perfumed, expressive bouquet of red and black currants, flowery incense, leather, chocolate, and baking spices. It’s medium to full-bodied on the palate and nicely balanced, with velvety tannins, a round, supple mouthfeel, and a great finish. It’s drinking nicely already, but I see no need to delay gratification either. Nevertheless, it should have 15 years of prime drinking.”

2019 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Allen Shoup was a prominent visionary in the Washington wine industry and spent decades building the Chateau Ste Michelle brand and its affiliate wineries to international recognition. In 2002, Allen retired from Chateau Ste Michelle to launch Long Shadows, his most significant and ambitious project yet, aimed at elevating Washington wines by bringing in renowned international winemakers to create super-premium wines.

Allen hired ambitious French native Gilles Nicault to be the Director of Winemaking because of Gille’s knowledge, flexibility, and eagerness to merge his winemaking skills with each vintner. Each winemaker joined the team as a co-owner of their wine, and in doing so, Allen hoped each partner would learn more about Washington’s vineyards and embrace the viticultural excellence of the state. With over forty years of experience making wine in Napa Valley, Randy Dunn expertly crafted the 2019 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon from hand-harvested grapes aged 22 months in 85% new French oak bringing forth an extraordinarily high level of sophistication from the Columbia Valley.
