2021 Delmore Pinot Noir Bassi Vineyard Slo Coast AVA
San Louis Obispo native Darren Delmore cut his teeth in the wine industry, working for Hirsch Vineyard, Whitehorn, Goldeneye, and Two Hands before he became the National Sales Manager at Tablas Creek. His first-hand experience in the vineyards laid the foundation for Delmore wines. He launched his boutique brand in 2017 after purchasing 2,000 pounds of Pinot Noir and a bin of Syrah, setting out to make wild yeast-fermented, unfiltered wines from sea-sprayed coastal terroirs.

The biodynamically farmed Bassi Vineyard sits just a mile from the reefs where Darren grew up surfing and within the SLO Coast AVA. His 2021 Pinot Noir is 100% free-run juice, meaning no pressing, giving soft tannins and subtle layers of aromatic complexity before being bottled with love. The wine is an absolute delight.

“The 2021 Delmore Bassi Vineyard Pinot Noir begins with a bright, fragrant nose that includes spicy red berries, Spring florals, fresh herbs, wet leather, cold-smoked meat, and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant with zesty red cherries, wild strawberries, fresh pomegranate, and pie spices. The focused palate is penetrating and energetic, with a wonderful balance of freshness and length. Although young, it drinks nicely now and will continue to do so over the next eight years.”

COOMBSVILLE 2018

2018 Maroon Cabernet Sauvignon Special Reserve Coombsville
Paul Maroon obtained 37 acres in Coombsville over two decades ago, with 17 of those acres planted with Cabernet Sauvignon that he tended and sold to several of Napa Valley’s top wineries until 2009 when he decided to produce the first vintage of Maroon. Coombsville became an AVA in 2011 and quickly established a reputation for delivering sophisticated wines with elegant structure due to the cooler climate in the southern end of the Valley.

Chris Corley has been the winemaker since Maroon’s inaugural vintage and has worked with Paul for over 20 years, creating a symbiotic relationship built around their passion for the vineyards, the beautiful wines, and a solid commitment to quality. The wine team hand-picked the 2018 Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maroon estate in Coombsville, fermented the grapes, and aged the resulting wine for 30 months in 75% new French oak for a complex flavor development that will continue to evolve and express this fantastic vintage.

WHITE BURGUNDY

2020 Maison Jessiaume Rully White Burgundy
Maison Jessiaume’s historic estate, established in 1850, is located in the Santenay region in the Côte de Beaune, with thirty-seven acres of vines planted and wines produced from 15 different appellations. They farm their vineyards organically, and the winemaking approach is minimal, with as little intervention as possible utilizing hand harvesting, hand sorting, ambient yeast fermentation, gravity flow, and natural clarification.

Rully is an AOC in the northern Côte Chalonnaise, giving soft, generous whites with “both the coolness and the polish of marble,” according to the Bourgogne Wine Board. Maison Jessiaume fermented the grapes for the 2020 Rully in oak, aged them on the lees for 12 months, and then transferred them to stainless steel for four to six months before bottling, resulting in a pure, focused wine with complex flavor intensity and delightful drinkability.

BORDEAUX 2019

2019 Chateau De Pez Saint-Estephe Bordeaux
Chateau de Pez is the oldest estate in Saint-Estèphe, founded in the 15th century, making it one of the oldest estates on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The Pontac family, then owners of Chateau Haut-Brion, established the vineyards of Pez and held onto the property until the French Revolution.

Champagne producer Louis Roederer purchased Château de Pez in 1995 and was reclassified as a Cru Bourgeois in 2003 in recognition of their continued delivery of premier quality wine. The 2019 growing season was dry and sunny, resulting in wines with focused vibrance, mineral tension, and a delicate balance between power and elegance. Chateau de Pez is an outstanding example of the vintage’s best attributes.

“This year’s blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 de Pez comes tumbling out of the glass with an astonishingly beautiful perfume of lilacs, black cherries and black raspberries over a core of stewed plums, clove oil, dark chocolate and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is jam-packed with energetic black fruits, supported by a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed. I love where this once-malingering château is headed—bravo to winemaker Nicolas Glumineau from Pichon Lalande!”

OAKVILLE 2015

2015 Buselli Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville
Italo and Rosalia Buselli planted their family vineyard in 1990 on the Eastern slopes of the Vaca Mountains in Oakville, neighboring Tierra Roja Vineyard, and across Silverado Trail from Screaming Eagle. The vineyard site receives fog-infused mornings and warm sunny afternoons as the vines dig deep into the rocky, volcanic soils bringing concentration and complexity to the fruit.

This 100% estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon was carefully crafted by winemaking team Stacy Vogel and Tim Milos, focusing on a pure and unpretentious approach without fining or filtering, allowing for full expression of the terroir. The 2015 vintage saw 24 months in 90% new French oak and has nearly six years of bottle age showing brilliantly now and with plenty of longevity ahead for those who wish to cellar this beauty.

“The gorgeous Buselli Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 begins with an opulent nose of ripe black cherries, ripe figs, sweet pipe tobacco, and violets. It is powerful on the palate, which builds on the aromatics with dark chocolate, bright red fruits, concentrated sweet black fruits, and vanilla spice. This beauty is luxuriously rich, decadently supple, and pristinely balanced, with polished fine-grained tannins. The abundant, complex red and black fruits that build to a very long, focused finish is everything I look for in the finest quality Oakville Cabernet Sauvignons.”

PIEDMONT, ITALY 2018

2018 Bruna Grimaldi Camilla Barolo Piedmont Italy
Bruna Grimaldi and her husband Franco Fioriono grew up in the hills that join Grinzane Cavour to Serralunga d’Alba, where grape growing and high-quality wine production are a big part of family traditions. The Camilla Barolo is made in a classic style with extended maceration to gently extract color, tannins, and the aromatics essential for high-quality Nebbiolo wines with long aging potential.

The fruit comes from specially selected vineyards, including the famed Badarina in Serralunga that belonged to Bruna’s mother, the Bricco Ambrogio site Bruna and Franco purchased in Roddi, and the Grimaldi family’s original property in Grinzane Cavour. The regional blending incorporates harmony and balance in the wine, aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux for a minimum of 30 months before being further matured in the bottle before release. These techniques create a compelling wine with an impressive range of diverse flavors and complexity.

2020 Domaine Parigot Bourgogne Rouge Burgundy France
Domaine Parigot is a family wine estate run by Marie, Regis, and their son Alexandre. They source fruit from eighteen communes, including Meloisey, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Chassagne-Montrachet. Of the 44.5 acres the winery works with, 37 are dedicated to Pinot Noir and tended to by “Lutte raisonée,” which focuses on a natural approach to the vines, using forces outside of nature only when the vines are struggling to produce healthy fruit.

The viticultural team hand-harvests the fruit each vintage, meticulously sorting the fruit in the vineyard and again at the winery, ensuring only perfectly ripe berries make their way into fermentors. ‘Clos de la Perrière,’ located upper slopes of the Côtes de Beaune, was highly regarded by the Cistercian monks, and the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2020 red Burgundy over-delivers quality in all the best ways, with concentrated flavors, complexity, spice, and brightness.

2019 Sophie Cinier Macon-Fuisse Les Perrieres
Sophie Cinier took over her family’s small estate near Fuissé in 2000, immersing herself in farming while selling grapes to local producers. Five years later, Sophie’s passion for her vineyards extended into the cellar, and realizing the immense quality of her fruit, she produced her first vintage.

The region of Mâcon-Fuissé lies at the end of the most extended range in the Mâcconais, positioned on either side of Pouilly-Fuissé, lying within a topographical bowl of reef-like composites of limestone. Sandwiched in the middle of several Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards, Les Perrières contains vines averaging nearly 30 years, producing fruit with remarkable intensity and sophistication. Sophie fermented this wine using native yeasts before aging it in neutral oak for 22 months for an exquisite combination of richness and vibrancy, offering immense value.

The historic Larkmead estate was founded in 1895, making it one of the oldest family-owned properties in Napa Valley. The winery’s secret sauce lies in its vineyard, which borders the Napa River and Selby Creek at the conjunction point of two colluvial fans, where an accumulation of ancient riverbed gravel, clay, and loam, gives the wines a hillside-grown structure.

Firebelle gets its name from Lillie “Firebelle Lil” Hitchcock because of its extraordinary balance of elegance, softness, power, and expression. The 2019 growing season was perfect for Merlot which comprises 43% of the Firebelle blend, adding plush tannins and gorgeous aromatics with a backbone of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon giving concentration and balance.
