2022 Domaine Seve Pouilly-Fuisse Premeir Cru Burgundy France

For those who crave Burgundy beyond the surface, the 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Rendez-Vous from Domaine Sève is a cuvée that gathers the essence of three Premier Cru sites into one profound expression: La Frérie, Les Resses, and Les Boutières. Its name, meaning “meeting place,” captures the spirit of the blend: three celebrated terroirs converging in a single expression that brims with tension, precision, and layered minerality.

Nowhere else in the Mâconnais does Chardonnay speak with such clarity. Pouilly-Fuissé’s fossil-rich limestone and dramatic escarpments shape wines of mineral precision and textural grace, combining the finesse of the Côte d’Or with a radiant southern energy.

In an era when Burgundy often feels out of reach, Rendez-Vous delivers a striking reminder that true beauty need not come with excess. This Premier Cru Pouilly-Fuissé offers the poise, depth, and aging potential usually reserved for the Côte d’Or, yet remains accessible. It’s a wine that both honors tradition and redefines what southern Burgundy can be.

“The Domaine Sève 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru “Rendez Vous” opens with delicate floral aromas of white blossoms and elderflower, leading to concentrated layers of apricot, pear, pineapple, and melon. Layers of cream, lemon custard, and a subtle touch of bourbon anglaise bring richness, while notes of croissant and freshly baked pastries highlight the wine’s inherent complexity. The palate is supple and silky, with a creamy mid-palate, seamlessly balanced by a bright, driving acidity on the finish, capturing the opulence and precision of the region.”

“Sourced from three blocks of Stagecoach Vineyard, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Clone 685, Clone 4, and Clone 337, aged 22 months in 100% new French oak. Brimming with ripe cherry fruit, sweet spice, sandalwood nuances, and sagebrush character, this wine offers a medium- to full-bodied palate filled with a spectrum of crunchy red and blue fruit. While mountain tannins from this site are typically powerful and robust, they are beautifully balanced in 2022, making this incredibly approachable and ready to drink now and often. Nils Venge founded the brand in 1992 with the first vintage of Venge Vineyards. His son, Kirk Venge, began making the wines in 2003 and took over the brand in 2008.”

“From one of the latest harvests in the Sonoma Coast history, development of flavor had an advantage and this wine is proof. This wine is a blend of the estate’s six vineyards including the Heritage Vineyards of the Durell, Gap’s Crown, and Walala. The wine is delicate and feathery, with clear cut acid structure that illuminates cherries, pomegranate, and orange peel. Its dimension is notable, a down pillow of creamy blueberry, hibiscus, and mint chocolate chip with a dash of black pepper on the finish.”

Côte De Nuits-Villages

2022 Frederic Magnien Croix-Violette Cote De Nuits-Villages

Frédéric Magnien’s 2022 ‘Croix Violette’ whispers of place, patience, and precise artistry. Emerging from a storied vineyard in the village of Brochon, steps from the prestigious terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine distills the spirit of the Côte de Nuits into a singular, vivid expression. Here, beneath ancient stone walls, vines 50 years old dig deeply into limestone-clay soils, lending the wine a profound mineral resonance.

Guiding this narrative is Frédéric Magnien, a fifth-generation vigneron whose winemaking philosophy bridges tradition with exploration. Frédéric’s formative experiences include working alongside visionary Josh Jensen at Calera Vineyards. Today, he meticulously oversees each organically farmed parcel, ensuring his wines convey authenticity.

Magnien’s hands-off approach is evident: native yeast fermentations in stainless steel and gentle maturation in French oak barrels, as well as carefully selected clay amphorae. This unique aging process imparts an elegant, silken texture while preserving the pristine clarity of the vineyard’s identity. At $49.99, the 2022 Croix Violette is an exceptional value that invites contemplation, stirs emotion, and lingers vividly in memory.

“The Conn Creek ‘Special Selection’ is a blend of appellations that were among the original sources of the estate (established in 1973) and from sites around Napa Valley. The idea is to frame a classically fashioned snapshot of Napa Cabernet through the eyes of Elizabeth DeLouise-Gant, who has been making the wines since 2017. Previously, she worked at Beaulieu Vineyard, Tamber Bey, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. This 2019 is over a classic vintage expression, with fruit from Mt. Veeder, Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, Rutherford, Atlas Peak, and Spring Mountain AVAs. Very pretty blackberry fruit aromas, nuanced by tobacco, cedarwood, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied with tobacco-laced blackberry fruit, Bing cherry, and spiced plums, with delicious vanilla-kissed sweet oak spices and an undercurrent of mocha with fine-grained tannins and a finish of chalky minerality.”

The 2022 Soléna Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir is a wine of paradox: light on its feet yet unshakably grounded. Born from one of the Willamette Valley’s oldest sites, it captures the vineyard’s legacy in every shimmering layer, offering a profile that is earthy, lifted, and pure. This is Pinot Noir as poetry, delivered with grace and precision.

Hyland Vineyard occupies a distinctive corner of the McMinnville AVA, where cooling marine winds and elevated slopes converge to slow ripening and heighten complexity. The result is a Pinot Noir shaped as much by climate as by place: layered aromatics that lift and evolve, with a palate that pulses with red fruit, wet stone, and subtle floral tones.

Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2022 vintage is a study in varietal clarity. This is a wine that invites reflection rather than demands attentionand reminds us that greatness in Pinot Noir often comes not from force, but from finesse, patience, and a deep respect for the land.
