Leto’s 2018 Sauvignon Blanc offers a vivid interpretation of Calistoga terroir, and they sourced the grapes from a tiny, dry-farmed vineyard, where winter rains are the sole source of irrigation. The vines yield just 1 and 3/4 tons per acre of pristine Sauvignon Blanc fruit, and the wine offers detailed lime peel, nectarine, grapefruit, and rocky minerals. At this price, one taste and you won’t LET it go.

Created by Brad Warner, the owner and winemaker who has been making wine for over a 1/2 century, Brad’s talent shows in this brilliant interpretation of Calistoga Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is remarkably intriguing, alluring, and full of life.

Each year we make a handful of discoveries that are so inspiring, that the guys on our tasting panel can sometimes sell the wine completely out the instant it arrives in our warehouse. Vineyard 36 is one of those wines, and when we tasted their 2016 Thirty Six Cabernet Sauvignon from Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard earlier this year, the wine disappeared in an instant. As luck would have it, we just tasted their 2017 Foundation Proprietary Red, which includes 14% Cabernet Sauvignon from Beckstoffer George III heightened with Merlot from Oak Knoll. We kept the wine hidden in our warehouse, just long enough to send you this note, (we hope). The wine was made at Vineyard 29, which is one of Napa Valley’s most innovative wineries with everything from gravity flow tanks to an optical sorter that can be programed algorithmically… It was crafted by Keith Emerson who also makes Vineyard 29’s Cabernets… At this price, you might want to skip straight to the order button.

Vineyard 36 is a partnership between professional athletes Cam Ward and Tim Gleason and their friend Jason Earnest. With a shared goal of producing exceptional wines sourced from premier estates that express the diversity of Napa Valley’s finest terroirs, this is truly a winery to watch. If you’re a fan of California red blends, you’ve likely heard many being described as Bordeaux-styled. It’s most commonly used a reference to the varietal makeup of the blend, and most often refers to Bordeaux’s “Top Five” which includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Hill Family’s 2015 Origin Estate Blend is absolutely stunning and includes 4 of Top Five, but it’s completely Californian in style. It’s purposefully created in a plush, enchanting style, with lavish, extracted flavors, ranging from intense dark fruits, complex spices and sweet vanilla. The wine was crafted by talented winemaker Alison Green Doran who worked under legendary winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff at her father’s Simi winery, and was also the winemaker at Lewis Cellars. Fans of rich, voluptuous Red Blends should be all over this one.

Rising from a blockbuster vintage in Napa Valley, and one Vinous describes as producing “opulent, voluptuous wines with real personality…” Hill Family’s 2015 Origin is a stunning specimen of the vintage. Composed using fruit from seven vineyards, and ranging 4 appellations, the 2015 blend is built around a core of 47% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, enhanced with Malbec and Petit Verdot. The wine was kept for 16 months in barrel and around 2 full years in bottle before release. I highly recommend a case while supplies last.
