PRINCE OF HEARTS
2016 PROPRIETARY RED

2016 Blanket Prince Of Hearts Proprietary Red
In 1996, Claude and Katherine Blankiet had the opportunity to view an undeveloped hillside property behind Dominus’ Napanook vineyard and purchased the site without hesitation, naming it Paradise Hills. The vineyard experiences a cooler terroir than other parts of Napa Valley due to its eastern exposure with bright sunny mornings and cool, shady afternoons, preserving natural acidity as temperatures rise later in the day, producing exquisitely balanced, focused fruit.

Viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Helen Turley extensively studied the different soil compositions in the vineyard, dividing it into four distinct blocks with strategically selected rootstocks and clonal varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The 96 point 2016 Prince of Hearts captures the essence of this top estate, presented with a supple mouthfeel and exceptional balance made possible by the site’s complex terroir and the wine team’s diligence in the vineyard and cellar.

“…another seamless, elegant wine from the estate that has remarkable complexity in its sandalwood, spice box, chocolate, and cassis and blueberry-like fruits. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, and ultra-fine tannins, it can be drunk today or cellared for 15+ years. It’s another beautiful wine from this team that has both power and finesse.”

ONE POINT FIVE

2018 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five
John Shafer began making wine in 1978 and was eager for his son Doug to join him as the lead winemaker, but Doug turned him down two or three times before finally agreeing to a partnership in 1983, which they refer to as the “generation and a half” or One Point Five. The father-son team spent the last 35 years overseeing the production of their Stags Leap wines, which rank among the best in the valley and embody their passion for the district.

Sourced from Borderline and Shafer’s Hillside Estate vineyards, known for producing small berries with structure and depth of flavors, One Point Five represents the quintessence of the region. The wine is a worldwide favorite that’s perennially high scoring and beloved for having seamlessly soft tannins and a luscious mouthfeel that’s enjoyable today and suitable to age for a decade.

“This is a muscular wine with a velvety backdrop—classic for the vintage and appellation. Silky tannins glide across a foundation of turned earth, crushed rock, clove and tobacco. The wine is hugely structured and grand. Dark plum, cherry and mocha flavors round out the profile….”

“The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) might be the finest vintage to date. Dense purple-hued, with a thrilling nose of blue and black fruits as well as graphite and crushed stone, it’s medium to full-bodied and has a wonderfully pure, elegant texture, ample underlying tannins, and a great finish. It shows the more focused, elegant, yet structured style of the vintage to a T.”

2018 THREE PALMS
NAPA VALLEY MERLOT

2018 Duckhorn Three Palms Napa Valley Merlot
Since its first bottling in 1978, Duckhorn Three Palms Vineyard Merlot set the gold standard for New World Merlot, reaching the pinnacle in 2017 by ranking #1 on the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list, the second-ever domestic Merlot to achieve that status. Located in Northern Napa Valley, Three Palms Vineyard sits at the exact location where warm temperatures and rocky, volcanic soils force the vine’s roots deep into the ground in search of nutrients, boosting the minerality and depth of flavors.

The growing conditions in 2018 were optimal, with a mild spring and summer followed by a temperate fall allowing the grapes an extended hang-time, achieving the perfect ripeness of fruit and tannin components. Duckhorn’s tradition of excellence comes full circle in this powerful yet elegant, full-bodied Merlot with a long, ethereal finish that’ll keep you wanting more and more.

“A big bruiser, blockbuster of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve boasts a dense purple color as well as a mammoth-sized bouquet of blackcurrants, dark chocolate, roasted herbs, and lead pencil. Thick, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it has a great mid-palate, building yet bright, polished tannins, and a great finish. It’s one big mouthful of fruit at the moment, but it will develop more elegance and nuance with 2-4 years of bottle age, and I suspect it will have two decades of overall longevity.”

“This is an extrovert, with singed vanilla, mocha and violet notes gilding a ripe, lush core of plum, blackberry and black currant fruit. Ends with a frankly toasty tug on the licorice- and fruit-filled finish. A bit amped up in style, but will have fans for sure. Best from 2022 through 2035.”

2017 NAPA VALLEY

2017 Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Above ground, Larkmead Vineyards is a masterpiece of sustainable farming with winemaking at the highest level. Still, it’s what’s beneath their vineyard that makes them a marvel of New World Cabernet production and genuinely unique. Planted above ancient riverbed gravel with a similar well-draining environment to Napa’s hillsides, Larkmead Vineyard produces powerful fruit with mesmeric complexity. Their 2017 release is a classic example of their vineyard’s identity, shown through the vintage’s lens, capturing their team’s drive, emotion, and combined expertise.

Capturing the vineyard’s diversity by fermenting in multiple small lots, winemaker Dan Petroski’s intimate knowledge of the property shines in this wine. The vineyard borders Selby Creek and the Napa River, where an accumulation of ancient riverbed gravel, clay, and loam, formed the perfect canvas to cultivate grapes.

Utilizing a systems approach to farming, Nabor Camarena and viticulturist Kelly Maher farm Larkmeads Vineyard as a single component of the larger surrounding ecosystem, lending to the uniform balance of their wines.

LES PETITS MORLET

2014 Morlet Cabernet Sauvignon Les Petits Morlet
Luc Morlet has extensive winemaking experience in France. With that knowledge, he can manipulate old-world principles and techniques and perfectly adapt them to California wines, which sets him apart from the pack. The resulting wines harmoniously balance intensity, richness, and complexity in their youth and have the capacity to cellar gracefully for many years. His 2014 Le Petits Cabernet beautifully displays his remarkable ability. With seven years of age, this wine is enchantingly hedonistic and enjoyable now or over the next decade or more in the future.

The Morlet Les Petits Cabernet is a Cuvée style blend constructed from younger vines grown on many iconic properties where Luc sources fruit. Like numerous outstanding 2014 Cabernets, this wine is compelling and highly aromatic.

Luc grew up on his family’s vineyard in France, and he gained extensive experience making wine in Burgundy and Bordeaux before replacing John Kongsgaard as winemaker at Newton Cellars in 1996. In 2001 Luc joined Peter Michael Winery, continuing the legacy of Helen Turley and Mark Aubert, crafting Peter Michael from 2001 through 2005.

“The entry-level Bordeaux cuvée is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Petits Morlet, which is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot in 2014. This cuvée gets younger vine fruit as well as the fruit that didn’t make the cut for the upper cuvées, so the blend changes every year. The 2014 is a beautiful wine in its own right and worth your time and money. Crème de cassis, chocolate, and violet notes all flow to a full-bodied, deep, impressively concentrated effort that shows both the house elegance and purity, and the charming nature of the 2014 vintage.”

Planted and farmed by renowned viticulturist Jim Barbour, the vineyard sits at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains, where the earth has eroded from the slopes over millennia. At Keever, each vineyard block ferments separately and with individual attention, ensuring absolute quality. In the cellar, gentle handling is foremost, supported by gravity flow and vibrating sorting tables where the wine team meticulously inspects every grape, removing any that are less than perfect.

Created with resolute intent on highlighting the best features of each vineyard block and seamlessly blended to represent the highest quality wine possible each year, every decision made at Keever executed with the highest regards to quality.
