2015 Sans Liege The Offering Proprietary Red
Made in a magnetic style that draws you in with lavish aromas that become increasingly compelling with aeration, Sans Liege’s Southern Rhone inspired blend The Offering is wine that I simply love.  A remarkable fusion of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, the 2015 saturates your taste buds with a velvety texture, intermixed with vibrant red fruits, crème de cassis, juicy blackberries, and savory spices that you coming back for more… The perfect accompaniment for pizza, BBQ, or simply any day that ends in “y,” you’ll want to secure a case or two of this before the reviews surface.
Bursting onto the scene from top vineyards located in California’s iconic Santa Barbara County… this expressive blend spends an optimal 22 months in barrel and blossoms for more than a year in bottle before release.  Always a terrific value, an earlier vintage of The Offering commanded national attention when it ranked #34 in the world on the 2011 Wine Spectator Top 100, and if you’re searching for a unique and delicious blend to share with your friends and family this year…  Seriously, you will be thanking me later.

Winery Notes:The study is dense with the scents of kirsch, oolong tea and cinnamon bark. Beside you sits a plate of fennel and anise spiced sausage along with the crumbs of your biscuit that was smeared with strawberry preserves. Zealously pouring over the parchment on the old oak desk, you can not relinquish the task. The code must be cracked tonight. Your graphite pencil scratches onward in the candlelight as the prospect of insight nears.”

CABERNET SAUVIGNON STOP TALKING…
2014 NAPA VALLEY

How often do you go into someone’s wine cellar and see a high quality wine that you’ve never heard of before?  It’s rare to find a wine that’s produced on such a small scale that it’s essentially nowhere to be found… Cru 9’s 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet is one of those wines. With a complete production of just 4 barrels, (100 cases,) this wine is just about as rare as they come.  The wine is remarkably stunning, and so good that we’re glad it’s still a secret… Rightfully named “stop talking”, I’m certain when the word gets out about how good this wine is, it will disappear fast.  At the winery retail of $50/btl I’m all in…and we bought every bottle that we could.
Carved from a secret vineyard source in Napa Valley, and due to a a non-disclosure agreement, the fruit source needs to be kept secret… The 2014 Cru 9 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and it shows. On the palate, waves of concentrated blackberry, cassis, espresso and plum preserves circulate and add new dimensions as the wine opens up.  It’s made in a deep but supple style that I find highly appealing.

Tasting Notes:Cru 9 Stop Talking is a full-bodied, rich Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from one of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards. Complex aromas of Bing cherry, red plum and crushed blackberries perfectly complement the wine’s deep ruby hue. The palate is rich and long with great depth, showing balanced red and black fruits, bakers chocolate, spice box, dried green herbs and finishes with youthful dusty tannins.  Drink from 2019 through 2028.”

2014 Montagu Bacigalupi Pinot Noir
Nothing beats drinking a stunningly beautiful Pinot Noir from one of California’s most Iconic Vineyards. Montagu’s 8 barrel production of their Baciaglupi Vineyard Pinot erupts from the glass with an exotic perfume of crushed blackberries, dried violets, Asian plum and baking spices.  This world-class vineyard made history at the 1976 Paris tasting when Château Montelena triumphed over all of the French wines in its category.  40 percent of the fruit was sourced from Bacigalupi.
Created in a deep and saturating style, the 2014 is beautifully textured, and loaded with class.  Utilizing three revered Pinot clones, 777, 667 and Pommard, and each complimenting the strengths of the others… the wine is then finished in high quality French oak barrels.  If you love big, California style Pinots like Marcassin, Belle Glos and Kosta Browne, one taste will bring you home.

JONES FAMILY 2013 Jones Family The Sisters Cabernet Sauvignon

2013 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
THE SISTERS

Almost as common as the name Jones, is the number of times Thomas Brown comes up in my emails.  With nearly two dozen perfect 100 Point wines, Thomas Brown is a dominating force in Cabernet Sauvignon and he’s truly at the top of his game. He made history as the first American winemaker to receive a perfect 100 Point score from the Wine Spectator, and he’s also the winemaker at Schrader, Revana, Maybach, Gemstone and Outpost to name a few.  It’s also not uncommon for Brown’s wines to trade for several hundred dollars per bottle and at under $100, the Jones Family The Sisters Cabernet got my attention…

Packed with supple, concentrated red cherry, deep black raspberry, pomegranate, graphite and a touch of sweet vanilla oak, this absolutely ready to drink Cabernet will thrill you from first sip to last. The vineyard is managed by Jim Barbour, one of the absolute top viticulturists, who’s list of clients include icons like  Hundred Acre, Grace Family and Barbour to list a few…  At under $100/btl this pedigreed Cab deserves a spot in your cellar and on your table…

Winery Notes: “The supple mouth feel and red-fruit core of the 2013 The Sisters makes it incredibly approachable early.  The color of this wine is a translucent deep garnet and aromas of rose oil, lavender, and mint emanate from the glass.  On the palate the wine is very round and fully reminiscent of a soft flower petal in feel and shape.  Notes of dark cherry, river stone, and jasmine are finely layered and framed by light tannin profile that provides just the right amount of structure.  This wine should be showing well for the next 5-7 years.”

There is plenty of intensity in the glass as this full-bodied, opulent wine shows off its considerable personality. Sweet floral and spiced notes add lift on the finish. 2015 A.J. ADAM “DHRONER HOFBERG” KABINETT RIESLING
A darling varietal of Sommeliers due to it’s ability to pair with a diverse set of foods, Riesling’s naturally higher acidity, intense fruit and residual sugar allows it to be for white wines, what Pinot Noir is for reds… Riesling is a virtual chameleon when it comes to food and wine pairing and in my opinion, an essential part of any wine collection.  Whether you already love Riesling, or would like to experience a great one, A.J. Adam’s high-scoring Kabinet Riesling from the Grand Cru Hofberghttp://bit.ly/2016JeanLucRiesling Vineyard isn’t a bad place to start… At under thirty per bottle it’s absolutely sensational and it’s already earned 93 Points from Vinous.
This very special Riesling arose from the Grand Cru Hofberg Vineyard, which in 1868 was classified by the Prussians as an extraordinary place to grow Riesling… On the palate this wine is light and silky, moving elegantly with detailed pear, honeyed melon, wet stones and lime peel.  The fruit is sweet but not cloying and the wine has a delicate weight that’s absolutely enjoyable to sip. I highly recommend adding some of this to your collection before it sails away.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
2013 NAPA VALLEY

Laird 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
When it comes to traditionally styled Napa Valley Cabernet, one of my favorite examples is from Laird Family Winery.  As one of the largest land owners in Napa Valley, Laird has access to some terrific fruit sources.  The 2013 Napa Cab is built from almost equal parts Mast Ranch and Flat Rock vineyards.  The winery produces single vineyard Cabernets from both of these sites which retail for $80 to $90 per bottle…  It’s a brand that I love, and in fact we featured their 2012 vintage as one of our top 5 wines of the year in 2017.  At $53/btl the 2013 is simply stunning and a wine that shouldn’t be missed.

Laird has always attracted terrific winemakers.  The wines are currently made by Brian Mox, who spent several vintages at Lewis Cellars.  In 2013, Laird’s Consulting Winemaker was Paul Hobbs, one of the top winemakers in the world, having crafted such notables as Opus One, DuMOL, and Peter Michael to name a few.  This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Yountville spends an impressive 22 months in oak and generously delivers hedonistic delights with velvety tannins and great length.  The most common reaction to tasting this one is “Why haven’t I heard of these guys before?”  Consider yourself in-the-know!

SONOMA COAST

Small Vines 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

We’ve been conditioned to believe that bigger is better… but sometimes smaller is pretty darn good. Small Vines defines what a true Artisan producer is, and crafts wines of brilliant clarity, stunning depth and perfect balance.  They’re not just small in production, but their organically farmed vineyards yield just 1 to 2 pounds of fruit per vine naturally, due to the petite vines and tight spacing.  Then again, big can be good too, like the flavors which are broad and expansive, and of course, the high score.  At $55/btl this wine competes with the best California Pinots on the market.
Emerging from four sensational vineyard sites including TBH, Fassler, Baranoff and MK, the winery also produces single vineyard Pinots which retail for around $70-$80/btl.  Once harvested, the berries pass through roughly a dozen rigorous hand-evaluations, selecting only the very best grapes.  If you’re searching for a stunningly complex, classic Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, you’ll want a case of this beauty.

2014 Husic Palm Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon
When you’ve had a successful career in investing like Frank Husic, you learn a thing or two about what’s needed for a company to give you a return on investment.  Calling on many of the same skills that made him a top financial planner, Frank gathered all the essentials to create a successful wine.  Beginning with the vineyard, located on the hillsides just above Napa Valley’s Iconic Stags leap District and planted to cult clones 337 and 7.  He then hired Jim Barbour as his viticulturist.  Jim’s list of clients include icons like Hundred Acre, Grace Family and Barbour to list a few… The next key component was hiring Mike Hirby as winemaker.  Mike’s past and present clients include Behrens Family, D.R. Stephens, Relic and Realm.  I’ll give you some insider’s advice… add some of this to your portfolio.
With everything in just the right place, Husic’s Palm Terrace rallies your taste buds into a bull market of dense blackberries, red currants, cassis and melted chocolate.  At under $100 a share, I mean a bottle, this is a wine that I can get behind and this beauty can be thoroughly enjoyed now and promises to pay dividends over the next 12-15 years.

Winery Notes: “2014 brought warm temperatures and moderate yields to our estate hillside vineyards in and above Stags Leap District, and the south-western exposure meant we were able to capture the warmth of the last rays of sun all season. The result is the most thoroughly ripe Palm Terrace we have made to date, comprised of clone 337 from Julie’s Knoll and Clone 7 from the Terraces. Aromas of damson plum, raspberry coulis, currants, sage, and cocoa are extremely inviting, while the palate unfolds in many layers of soft, lush fruit carrying rich, concentrated flavors.
