As much as we love discovering up-and-coming boutique producers, there’s always room in our shop for the established trendsetters, and brands that are Benchmarks in their field. Justin’s flagship Isosceles Blend is named for the three Bordeaux varietals that go into it and the winery pioneered this style of blend in Paso Robles, which they began more than thirty years ago. When they first planted Cabernet vines in the Santa Lucia Mountains back in 1981, Paso Robles wasn’t even on the map as far as a wine region and particularly for Bordeaux varietals. Lucky for us, the fossilized limestone soils and large diurnal temperature swings are perfectly suited for ripening Bordeaux grapes and the Isosceles has proven over and over again how compelling this type of blend can be from Paso. At $59.99, I recommend clearing some space in the cellar.
The 2015 vintage of Isosceles combines 76% Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Merlot that’s aged in 100% new French oak barrels for an impressive 21 months. 2015 was a cooler vintage for Paso which is transparent in the wines tremendous structure. The wine is incredibly aromatic and loaded with complexity. At this price it simply should not be missed.

From Wine Enthusiast, “Snappy aromas of boysenberry and black raspberry mark a somewhat lighter, brighter spin on this classic blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 11% Merlot. Smashed plums and berries run into tobacco and herbs on the palate, where bright acidity pushes into the finish.” 91 Points

From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: “Blended of 69% Grenache, 9% Syrah and 22% Mourvedre, the 2014 Cuvee Alis Estate Vineyard has a medium garnet color and a beautifully spicy nose of Chinese five spice and Sichuan pepper with a good core of cherry preserves, blueberries and dried plums, plus a waft of Provence herbs. Full-bodied, the palate is led by spice box and savory notes with velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with great persistence.” 92 Points

The unit has worked together since 2003, professionally and personally through countless ups and downs that only true family can survive. 2016 Vin Perdu Napa Valley Proprietary Red
VIN PERDU
PROPRIETARY RED
2016 NAPA VALLEY
Exceptional quality in the bottle is always paramount, but there’s something extra great about a wine that exceeds expectations in terms of quality and has really cool packaging to back it up. Heidi Barrett is not only innovative in her winemaking, but she also has some of the most creative packaging too. Vin Perdu is a great example and the label actually animates as you view it from different angles, which adds another element to the drama that ensues before tasting any Heidi Barrett made wine. The 2016 is impressively deep and layered with lavish dark berries, sweet oak, spices and mocha. It’s already earned 94 points from Vinous and you might want to grab a case of it before this hologram disappears…
Arising from Amuse Bouche, Au Sommet, La Sirena, Fantesca and Barrett & Barrett vineyards, the 2016 checks in at 75% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. As one of Napa Valley’s most talented winemakers, some of Heidi’s past and present clients includes Amuse Bouche, Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Revana, David Arthur and Barbour. I strongly recommend a case of this absolutely stunning Heidi Barrett made wine…

From Vinous: “The 2016 Vin Perdu is absolutely gorgeous. In 2016, Vin Perdu is once again based on a core of Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich, ample and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2016 has a lot to recommend it. Mocha, plum, bittersweet chocolate, leather and spice meld together in a super-expressive, resonant wine from John Schwartz and Heidi Barrett. The Vin Perdu is technically the second wine of Amuse Bouche, but in many vintages I prefer it. It is one of the great values in Napa Valley wine.” 94 Points

2016 THE OFFERING
PROPRIETARY RED
Over the years, Sans Liege The Offering has been a staple in our shop and a favorite among customers. Unsurprisingly, the 2016 vintage recently earned 94 Points from the Wine Spectator. The wine is inspired by the deliciously complex wines from the Southern Rhone Valley and it’s made in a magnetic style that draws you in with lavish aromas. Bursting onto the scene from top vineyards located in California’s iconic Santa Barbara County… this expressive blend spends an optimal 22 months in barrel and blossoms for more than a year in bottle before release. 2016 Coup De Foudre Napa Valley Cuvee 37.2
COUP DE FOUDRE
2016 CUVEE 37.2
NAPA VALLEY
With a name like Coup de Foudre (pronounced koo dah foo drah) meaning the moment when lightning strikes, or when something unforgettable occurs that you want to capture forever, my expectations were set high… They were made even higher by knowing who’s behind the project… Coup de Foudre is owned by John Schwarts whom you might recognize from Amuse Bouche, Au Sommet, Vin Perdu and PharaohMoans. John has an eye for exceptional talent, working with the likes of Heidi Barrett, et.al. The 2016 Cuvee shattered my absolutely stratospheric expectations, starting with a unique double label design where you can peel the top layer off to keep, leaving one more below it, to a riveting bouquet and dense, polished core that’s stunningly balanced, poised and polished. At $75 this wine has everything that I look for in an Ultra Premium Napa Valley Blend.
The wine was pristinely constructed by talented winemaker Kent Jarman who perfected his craft at Kenefick Ranch Winery and Duckhorn Vineyards in the early 2000’s. This distinctive Bordeaux styled blend is built around a core of top-quality Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot. The 2016 has already earned 94 Points from Vinous and with 450 cases produced, this one most certainly won’t be available for long.

2013 Anarchist Wine Co Conspiracy Theory Proprietary Red
ANARCHIST WINE CO.
CONSPIRACY THEORY
2013 PROPRIETARY RED
Sometimes it all comes down to trust when discovering a new wine, and this one can and will undoubtably bring a tremendous level of enjoyment. Anarchist’s Conspiracy Theory blend is the bigger, richer and more opulent version to their Philosopher Red which was a knock-out success earlier this year. The common thread between the two is that both wines are made in a style that everybody loves. While The Philosopher was a supple, smooth, silky and medium-bodied red, the Conspiracy Theory saturates your taste buds in a velvety embrace that’s laced in hedonistic flavors that work like a magnet to your desires, drawing you in for sip after sip. Our tasting panel unanimously agrees.
Built around a core of Petite Sirah and blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Syrah, the 2013 Conspiracy Theory will have you contemplating about how it’s possible to create a wine so stunning at this price level. This wine arose from a vintage unanimously recognized for its unrivaled quality and it’s absolutely one of the most delicious blends imaginable. I highly recommend a case, while supplies last.

The finish is mouth-filling without being cloying, with just the right amount of dusty tannin, cocoa powder and a touch of baking spices. A delightful daily drinker that is certainly more serious than the majority of wines at anywhere near this price.”

2015 Blind Tasting Napa Valley Proprietary Red
BLIND TASTING
PROPRIETARY RED
2015 NAPA VALLEY
One of the fastest growing categories in our shop is New World style red blends that are built around a core of high-quality Zinfandel. This type of blend is always a crowd-favorite because they’re brimming with lush fruits, attractive spice, deep, succulent flavors and when everything is in perfect balance, they’re completely irresistible. A perfect example is the 2015 Blind Tasting which is unabashedly Californian. It has a core of Howell Mountain Zinfandel, amplified with ancient vine Petite Sirah, then ratcheted up even more with Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain. Fans of The Prisoner Red and Venge’s Scout’s Honor should not miss this wine and if you haven’t experienced a California Style Red blend, here’s a great opportunity to do so, but don’t wait too long because there were only 6 barrels produced.
The 2015 vintage lights up your palate with penetrating red and black fruits that come interwoven with wild rose, Mountain blueberries, hints of cinnamon and crushed granite. A deeply powerful wine with focused intensity that’s perfectly balanced by finely grained tannins. I strongly recommend you jump at the chance to secure a case. You’ll thank me later…

2017 Vista Atlas Peak Red Blend
How do you get an incredible Atlas Peak Cabernet Blend for $23? Quite honestly, you don’t, unless something very unusual occurs… Originally intended to be single vineyard Cabernets, a winemaking miscommunication led to a portion of two separate high-end projects getting accidentally blended into the wrong tanks. The result is two absolutely stunning blends that became the Vista wines… and both batches were originally slated to sell for $95/btl, had the original concept gone smoothly. We knew when we previously offered Vista Rutherford Blend, we would make some die-hard fans… and we were right. We bought everything that they made and in a relatively short time, we sold-out of all 728 cases of the Rutherford… Our single biggest seller of all time.
Luckily, but almost miraculously so, there is this Atlas Peak version of Vista, and it is even better than the Rutherford… Atlas Peak is an area long celebrated for its concentrated flavors and rocky terroir, and this wine embodies many of the hallmarks that I look for in Atlas Peak Cabernet. Predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, balanced with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2017 saturates your palate in seductively deep black berries laced with dried lavender, red currants, iron, and crushed rock. If you like the idea of a top quality Napa Cabernet blend at an incredible value, I highly recommend loading up on this one before it also sells out all too soon…
VISTA
2017 RED BLEND
ATLAS PEAK
Your Price: $23/btl
Tasting Notes: “Capturing a depth and richness that is completely unheard of at this price, Vista Atlas Peak unfurls aromas of muddled blackberries, black plum, crushed granite, graphite and hints of vanilla. The palate is powerfully concentrated with a stunning array of flavors including deep black cherries, blackberry tart, blueberry syrup, with hints of tobacco and chocolate. Powerful mountain fruit created a wine that is focused and linear in style, yet richly structured with balanced fruit tannins and a palate staining mid palate that leads to a long, intense finish.” 94 – 96 Points
2016 Skryne Road Napa Valley Proprietary Red
SKRYNE ROAD
PROPRIETARY RED
2016 NAPA VALLEY
Looking at the varietal makeup of Skryne Road’s 2016 Proprietary Red you might think you’re contemplating a Super Tuscan Blend with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon met with Merlot, Sangiovese and Petite Sirah. Of course, the moment this wine hits your palate you’ll know it’s entirely New World in style with a rich, voluptuous texture, laced in holiday spices, sweet oak, sassafras, supple berries and black chocolates. When we first offered this wine last Fall, we know it would make a lot of friends, and especially at this incredible price. Now there are just a handful of cases left, so if you’ve been on the fence about this one, or you want to re-order before it’s too late, don’t wait too long to hit the order button.
The name Skryne (pronounced screen) Road pays tribute to the winery owners routes and family home on Skryne Road in Ireland. After arriving in Napa Valley in 1994 they embarked on the path towards producing a wine. The first descriptors that come to mind when tasting this wine are riveting, deep and enchanting and you simply won’t believe how great this wine is…
