In winemaking, two can sometimes be better than one…  When combining two of the most iconic vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, the tension created between the two sites can create a stunningly complex flavor performance, with the distinctions from each site filling in where the other might not, and in the end balancing each-other out in a way that you can only get from multiple sites.  The 2014 Matias Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay is an absolute perfect example.  A remarkable fusion of Sierra Mar and Soberanes fruit, this Chardonnay truly has it all.  We weren’t the only ones that loved it… Robert Parker and the Wine Enthusiast gave this beauty a 90 Point Score.
The statement about two sometimes being better than one doesn’t just stop at the vineyard.  This sensational Chardonnay was co-authored by talented winemaking-duo Dan Fitzgerald, who worked at Williams-Selyem and John Harley, who worked at Donum Estate… Calling on the talents and expertise from both of them, they’re able to create a Chardonnay that stands out among the rest.  Don’t be fooled by the low price, this Chardonnay tastes like it should be about double the price…

“... shows butter, sea salt and caramel on the nose, balanced by tangerine and faint jasmine aromas. The wine is elegant and easy to like, with Meyer lemon and prominent-but-not- overpowering honey butter on the palate, and a pink lemonade touch that carries into the finish.”

“… Clean, straight and focused, with bright acidity, medium-bodied richness and notes of citrus blossom, crushed rock and white peach, this beauty is elegant, beautifully fresh and crisp on the palate. It’s a great value and one to drink over the coming 2-3 years.”

Matias Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Everybody loves an amazing value and particularly when it comes to Pinot Noir.  This 92 point Pinot bears origins from two of the Santa Lucia Highlands most acclaimed vineyards.  A blend of Soberanes and Sierra Mar Vineyards, Robert Parker alerts his readers, “it’s a rock solid example of the high quality Pinot Noirs coming from the Santa Lucia Highlands.”  Both vineyards are well-known for producing wines of notable character, intriguing flavors and compelling qualities, and finding a Pinot from both of these sites pushes the absolute limits of exceptionally high quality for an amazingly low price.  This wine retails at $40/btl at the winery.

Authored by talented winemaking-duo Dan Fitzgerald, who worked at Williams-Selyem and John Harley, who worked at Donum Estate, this 2014 is brimming with candied cherry, black raspberry, cola and Asian spices.  At under thirty per bottle, we’re certain this wine will have your taste buds salivating for another sip… and glass… and second glass. Don’t be fooled by the low price, this is a superb Pinot Noir that competes with iconic Pinots at a much higher price.

DANIEL

2014 Daniel Soberanes Vineyard Syrah2014 SYRAH
SOBERANES VINEYARD

The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA isn’t just producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay…  Some of the greatest Syrah in California also comes from the SLH, and the Soberanes Vineyard’s very name rings with excellence… Daniel’s two barrel production of Syrah opens up to a sybaritic harmony of sweet black cherries, smoked meats, charcuterie, pulverized blackberries and dried violets.
This profound Syrah was composed by accomplished winemaker Dan Fitzgerald, who got his start working at Williams-Selyem… With attention to every minute detail, this wine was gently created using a gravity flow method, then kept for 18 months in oak barrels.  As the wine unfolds in the glass, rich and inviting flavors envelope your palate in pure elegance, and become increasingly compelling as the wine opens up.

Winery Notes:The Daniel Syrah is a deeply saturated red, the nose is fragrant with white pepper, wet earth and zesty rhubarb. The palate is full bodied with a surprisingly refined silky texture, fine tannins and balanced with good acidity. There is a mild umami flavor reminiscent of bresaola along with blackberries, violets and dried flowers on the finish.

Brulium 2014 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands

BRULIAM

2014 PINOT NOIR
SOBERANES VINEYARD
SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS

From a vineyard that’s become synonymous with excellence, I get excited when I see this vineyard name printed on a bottle. Wineries like Lucia, Roar and Black Kite all make single vineyard Pinots from Soberanes, and Bruliam perfectly articulates this wondrous site.  The wine leaps from the glass with mineral-laced cherries, wild berry, rose petals, ripe plum and hints of baking spices.  It was strategically guided from grape to bottle by medical doctor-turned-winemaker Kerith Overstreet. Earning 93 Points from Wine Enthusiast, this beautifully expressive, sophisticated and charming Pinot is a terrific bottle of wine at near fifty per bottle retail.
Created from 100% Pisoni Clone, Soberanes is the latest vineyard planted by the Pisoni’s & Franscioni’s, whose families have been farming the area for over 100 years.  Bruliam brilliantly expresses the remarkably distinct flavors and textures that this vineyard is becoming known for.  With the average price of Pinot Noir from Soberanes estimated to be upwards of $50/btl, I strongly recommend making some serious room for this one…
