When I first tasted Keever’s 2013 Inspirado (Inspired) for the first time, to say that I was inspired by the quality would be an incredible understatement.  A better name would have been Infatuated, because that’s exactly how I felt after trying this wine.  With a resonant finish that lasts longer than nearly any wine that I’ve ever tasted at this price point, and expansive flavors so deep and compelling, that they leave you thinking about the wine for days after tasting it, this is a wine that you simply shouldn’t miss…  It’s authored by Celia Welch, (Scarecrow, D.R. Stephens, Barbour, Dalla Valle…)  And just in case you may not be familiar with Celia’s artistry, a testament to Celia’s winemaking ability is the fact that she made 5 cases of 2012 Scarecrow that sold for a record $260,000 at the Premiere Napa Valley Wine Auction… 
 
Checking in at 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, inspired by additions of Merlot and Malbec, the 2013 Inspirado saturates your taste buds in otherworldly levels of opulence. And while there are a lot of great Napa Valley Cabernet based wines available at under $100/btl, few approach this level of quality.  I have a strong suspicion that the critic’s will feel the same, and I simply wouldn’t wait for the scores to come out…  It will be too late…

Almost as common as the name Jones, is the number of times Thomas Brown comes up in my emails.  With nearly two dozen perfect 100 Point wines, Thomas Brown is a dominating force in Cabernet Sauvignon and he’s truly at the top of his game. He made history as the first American winemaker to receive a perfect 100 Point score from the Wine Spectator, and he’s also the winemaker at Schrader, Revana, Maybach, Gemstone and Outpost to name a few.  It’s also not uncommon for Brown’s wines to trade for several hundred dollars per bottle and at under $100, the Jones Family The Sisters Cabernet got my attention…

Winery Notes: “The supple mouth feel and red-fruit core of the 2013 The Sisters makes it incredibly approachable early.  The color of this wine is a translucent deep garnet and aromas of rose oil, lavender, and mint emanate from the glass.  On the palate the wine is very round and fully reminiscent of a soft flower petal in feel and shape.  Notes of dark cherry, river stone, and jasmine are finely layered and framed by light tannin profile that provides just the right amount of structure.  This wine should be showing well for the next 5-7 years.”

Exceptional quality in the bottle is always paramount, but there’s something extra great about a wine that exceeds expectations in terms of quality and has great packaging to back it up.  Heidi Barrett is not only innovative in her winemaking, but she also has some of the most creative wine labels, and particularly with the 2015 Vin Perdu. The label changes as you view it from different angles making it stand out even more.  The wine is impressively deep and layered in lavish dark berries, sweet oak, minerals and milk chocolate.  It’s already earned 94 points from James Suckling and you might want to grab a case of it before this hologram disappears.
Arising from Amuse Bouche, Au Sommet, La Sirena and Fantesca vineyards, the 2015 is nearly 50% Cabernet Franc blended with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  As one of Napa Valley’s most talented winemakers, some of Heidi’s past and present clients includes Amuse Bouche, Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Revana, David Arthur and Barbour.  I strongly recommend  a case of this absolutely stunning Heidi Barrett made wine…

The meaning behind the name Parusso reflects among other things, generosity, wisdom, and romance.  The 2013 Parusso Barolo Bussia fully embraces each of these concepts and more.  Exceedingly generous in sheer power, flavor intensity and don’t forget the 97 point score…  Wisdom comes from nearly 50 years of winemaking.  Romance, is the moment you taste this wine, it sweeps you off your feet and makes you fall in love with Barolo.  Opening up to dangerously captivating aromas of crushed red berries, intermixed with floral, white truffle, rose and spices. While it’s remarkably deep and long on the palate, it is relatively short in supply… there’s simply not much of this 97 Point Blockbuster Barolo to go around…
Bussia, one of the “cru” vineyard/districts located in the commune of Monforte d’Alba is one of the most desirable growing areas in Barolo and is famous for the dynamic terroir which expresses a penetrating structure and focused concentration of fruit.
