A common thread linking many of the top wines that we’ve discovered is that most of them sold out before many of you got to try them.  Those are usually the wines that are the easiest to describe and I believe our excitement over them is contagious. Orrin-Sage Pinot Noir defines that statement and based on the flurry of gushing comments and attempted re-orders, many of you felt just as strongly about the wine as we did.  This remarkable expression of Pinot Noir was was expertly made by Justin Harmon who gained valuable experience as an intern under Russell Bevan.  It’s absolutely one of the best Pinots in the shop under fifty per bottle and the 2016 shouldn’t be missed.  
 
Arising from the rugged Sonoma Mountain AVA, a unique area which gains some of the cooling influence from the Petaluma Gap and produces brilliant Pinot Noir fruit.  Bevan, Siduri and Flowers are just a few of the wineries that have crafted Pinots from this unique area.  The 2016 has stunning balance and opens up to vivid red fruits, dried rose, wild blueberries and tea leaf.  You’ll feel like you stole something after you taste it.

The best wines are much more than just flavors and aromas.  Great examples should evoke feelings, a sense of place and some even have mystical elements.  We found all of the above in Orrin-Sage’s Chardonnay and in the new 2016 release the fairytale continues and becomes even more engaging. This new chapter has been rewritten from the Maldonado’s cool and wind-swept vineyard on Jameson Canyon Road in Napa Valley’s Southern most point.  As I read further into the glass, the story became more detailed and full of lavish characters, with notes of lemon Meringue pie, ripe green figs, freshly picked nectarines and baking spices.  You simply can’t put this one down…
 
This wine was authored by Justin Harmon who gained valuable experience as an intern under Russell Bevan.  It’s illustrated with vivid orchard fruits, Granny Smith apple and rich, creamy undertones.  This is a limited edition, so don’t wait too long to secure yours.  You will need to sign up for our email list to unlock a special can’t-put-it-down value. With full-bodied are still fresh, chalky, moderately tannic, elegant and lengthy red. One of the leaders of the Paso wine scene is undoubtedly Eric Jensen’s Booker Vineyard (I’ve affectionately called this group the motley crew before). Jensen and his wife Lisa purchased these 72 acres in 2001, with their wines released in 2005. Since then, the wines have evolved from uber rich and forward, to today where they’re more polished, complete and structured. Looking at his 2015s, which Jensen compared to his 2010 and 2013s, they show the more elegant style of the vintage, yet pack plenty of fruit and texture. His 2016s are certainly bigger wines, yet have plenty of tannin and a focused style on the palate which I suspect will benefit from short term cellaring. In addition to his Rhône variety releases and blends, it’s worth pointing out the quality coming from his Cabernet Sauvignons as well. These are seriously good wines!”

Domaine Dubois Bernard is a microscopic producer in Chorey-Les Beaune, owning less than 18 acres of vineyards.   It’s owned by 5th generation winemaker Jacques Dubois who works to produce terroir-pure wines form their tiny parcels.  Their 2016 Clos Margot comes from a 5 hectare vineyard, planted in clay and limestone soils with just 77 centimeters of soil, before hitting pure limestone.  The wine is remarkably expressive, soft and velvety with lovely depth and persistence…  It’s absolutely delicious and overachieves at this price.

This Cabernet blend combines Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in a way that perfectly expresses Mount Veeder terroir with a vivid display of fine-grained tannins, focused berries, dried flowers, chocolate and stony minerality.  With rising costs to produce this truly top level Cuvee, the wine will only be available at $45/btl through October 1st.
