Many countries have a signature grape varietal that separates them from the rest, and in Australia, that varietal is Syrah, also known as Shiraz. It’s the countries best known and most widely planted grape, with vineyards dating back to the Mid 1800’s. Australian Shiraz is revered for its intensity that’s often expressed through powerful, heady aromas, saturating flavors and full-bodied style. A perfect example is Shottesbrooke’s 97 Point 2013 Eliza Reserve Shiraz which is chillingly intense and brimming with vivid red berries, roasted meats, black chocolate and spices. Eliza was created from an individual patch of vineyard on the winery’s McLaren Flat property that naturally produces exceptionally low yields of high quality fruit. At $60/btl this wine absolutely has it all… We bought it all after tasting this wine and at $39.99 we know you’re going to love it.
Named after the founders daughter, Eliza is the top Reserve Shiraz produced by the winery, and is only made in exceptional vintages. Due to low yields and high-demand for Eliza, only a limited number of cases make their way to the US. The wine is kept for 19 months in oak before bottling and the 2013 shines with vivid details. I strongly recommend adding some to your cellar.

Tasting.com Notes: “Cloudy indigo color. Attractive, roasted, meaty aromas and flavors of mocha maple fudge, smoked nuts, jerky, and toasty cedar and clay with a satiny, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a tingling, involved, long finish that exhibits suggestions of blackberry creme brulee, pomegranate-tomato chutney on rye raisin toast, beef consommé, and tamari with moderate oak flavor. A decadently delicious and savory shiraz that will stimulate and satisfy.” 97 Points, Platinum Medal, Superlative

2013 Anarchist Wine Co Conspiracy Theory Proprietary Red
ANARCHIST WINE CO.
CONSPIRACY THEORY
2013 PROPRIETARY RED
Sometimes it all comes down to trust when discovering a new wine, and this one can and will undoubtably bring a tremendous level of enjoyment. Anarchist’s Conspiracy Theory blend is the bigger, richer and more opulent version to their Philosopher Red which was a knock-out success earlier this year. The common thread between the two is that both wines are made in a style that everybody loves. While The Philosopher was a supple, smooth, silky and medium-bodied red, the Conspiracy Theory saturates your taste buds in a velvety embrace that’s laced in hedonistic flavors that work like a magnet to your desires, drawing you in for sip after sip. Our tasting panel unanimously agrees.
Built around a core of Petite Sirah and blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Syrah, the 2013 Conspiracy Theory will have you contemplating about how it’s possible to create a wine so stunning at this price level. This wine arose from a vintage unanimously recognized for its unrivaled quality and it’s absolutely one of the most delicious blends imaginable. I highly recommend a case, while supplies last.

Tasting Notes: “This unique blend begins with a compact nose of Bing cherry, wet slate, cotton candy and a touch of sweet vanilla spice. On the palate, it begins with focused black plum, penetrating wild red and black berries and Ibarra Chocolate. The finish is mouth-filling without being cloying, with just the right amount of dusty tannin, cocoa powder and a touch of baking spices. A delightful daily drinker that is certainly more serious than the majority of wines at anywhere near this price.”

2013 Fort Ross FRV Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
FORT ROSS
2013 PINOT NOIR
FRV, SONOMA COAST
There are plenty of reasons why we love Fort Ross Pinot Noirs. Their winemaking is second to none with Jeff Pisoni calling the shots. Further, their prices have also remained realistic over the years, despite the growing fan base and well-deserved scores. The number one thing that keeps me coming back year-after-year is the ideal location of their vineyard… It’s centered in the idyllic Fort Ross Seaview AVA, which in 2011 was approved as its own Appellation within the Sonoma Coast, the area is also a source for such notables as Peter Michael, Marcassin, Martinelli, Flowers and Pahlmeyer, to list a few… Their 2013 FRV Pinot Noir is a wine marked by stunning detail, length and character, and at this price, I can’t wait to experience it again…
Beautifully expressing the exceptional terroir found in the Fort Ross Seaview AVA with perfectly nit flavors, If you’ve tasted any of the earlier vintages of Fort Ross, you likely need no further commentary, other than to know the 2013 is now available. If you haven’t tried a Pinot from this beloved producer, here’s a chance to enjoy one at a truly fantastic price.

2103 Cabaud ‘Benedictions’ Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
CABAUD
2013 BENEDICTIONS
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
OAKVILLE, NAPA VALLEY
After tasting over 5,000 wines in 2018, our number one pick was clear the instant we tasted it… Each and every enthusiastic and glowing review that followed, cemented the wine permanently onto the list, and it became clear that it’s a wine that everybody loves. After all, this wine combines the highest level of winemaking with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Andy Beckstoffer’s heritage vineyards in Oakville. Many of you know winemaker Luc Morlet from his work at Newton Cellars, Peter Michael, or from his own label Morlet which is raking in 100 point scores… The 2013 Benedictions is the top wine produced at Cabaud and it’s made from the iconic Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard in Oakville. The previous vintage caught the eye of Robert Parker who scored the 2012 94-96 points and the 2013 is even better…
Finding new wines made by top winemakers, that are somewhat unheard of, pays off big at times… I would estimate Morlet’s Cabs to range from $165 to around $300/btl. At $150 Cabaud is a killer deal, I cannot put into words how incredible this wine is. Wines of this caliber and at this price never last long… I wouldn’t hesitate to secure yours. Tasting Notes: “An intense, glass-staining purple color combines beautifully with flavors of blueberry pie filling, with muddled blackberries, red currant, bramble, white flowers and bakers chocolate. The supple, full-bodied opulence, sweet tannin, and rich, dense center core intermingle with the powerful fruit to seduce you with the first sip. The finish is long, powerful and supple with just enough fruit tannins to allow this one to age for a decade or so. Kudos to Luke Morlet for crafting such a stunning wine.“96 Points, Kevin M. 2013 Ulises Valdez St. Peter’s Church Zinfandel
2013 ZINFANDEL
ST. PETER’S CHURCH
When comparing the Ulises Valdez St. Peter’s Church Zinfandel to all of the others that I’ve tasted over the years, it’s number one in my mind, and for that reason it was a clear choice as my #4 wine in 2018. Detailed, intense, penetrating, balanced are all perfect descriptors for this wine… The winery was founded by the late Ulises Valdez, one of California’s most sought after wine growers, revered for farming vineyards for Aubert, Kistler, Paul Hobbs and others. When he wasn’t farming for California’s most elite vineyards, he was cultivating his dream of building a successful brand and his children continue in his legacy of hard-work, passion, and family.
Arising from a 5 acre vineyard in Alexander Valley that’s planted to nearly century old vines, this wine exhibits all the qualities that I look for in Old Vine Zinfandel. Rosenblum fans might also recognize this vineyard from single vineyard Zinfandels that they produced in the 1990’s. I’ve always believed that “perfect” wines are exceptional to nearly everyone who tastes them, regardless of varietal. This is one of those and this exemplary ancient vine Zinfandel absolutely shouldn’t be missed…

HUMANITAS

2013 GEORGE’S VINEYARD
Clinching the #5 spot on my list of the Top Five Wines of 2018 is a wine that is so immediately compelling that I get a blissful sense each time I taste it. Experiencing that in a wine, particularly at this price, compels me to put some in my own cellar so I can experience it again and again. With the clarity and definition fitting a wine you’d rightfully pay much more for, the 2013 Humanitas George’s Vineyard Cabernet cascades across your palate with enticing flavors and penetrating intensity, revealing endless layers of silky dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate, dried violets, and hints of sweet vanilla… Over-achieving at its $65 retail price, make sure to join our Insider’s Club and unlock special values.

2013 Enos ‘Totem Ridge Vineyard’ Knight’s Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
ENOS
2013 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
TOTEM RIDGE VINEYARD
KNIGHT’S VALLEY
One of my favorite feelings that comes from opening a bottle of wine is one of an overwhelming rush of, wow, I just got a really good deal… For customer appreciation week this year, we wanted to give you an opportunity to experience that over and over again, with a full week of our best deals of the year. The only thing steeper than the incline of Totem Ridge Vineyard is the vertigo inducing discount of this $60 Cabernet … The vineyard is located on the Southern edge of the Knight’s Valley, which is an appellation shared with icons like Peter Michael and Anakota… At $60/btl this wine is a terrific find… At our price it’s one of the best Cabernet offers that we’ve presented all year.
If you’re looking for an inky, ripe, fruit bomb with lots of sweet oak and vanilla this wine is NOT for you… If you enjoy a more linear Cabernet with vivid red berries, veins of minerals, spices and crème de cassis. Don’t let this one slip by. It opens with a burst of dried raspberries, black cherries, bay leaf, pipe tobacco, crushed rock and incense. On the palate the wine is long and balanced with intriguing and expansive flavors that bring you back for more. This wine is only produced in exceptional vintages, so don’t wait for the next one to secure yours…

2013 La Rasina Brunello Di Montalcino
LA RASINA
2013 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
MONTALCINO, ITALY
Classic, profound, detailed, all perfectly describe La Rasina’s 96 point Brunello di Montalcino. The wine is intensely aromatic, focused and persistent. The winery continues to make investments in their vineyards and winemaking, and just when we thought they couldn’t get any better, they did… La Rasina has been one of our most popular Brunellos in the shop for years, and this vintage is at an entirely new level of detail and enchantment. The 2013 is noticeably more masculine and powerfully structured with and deep layers of mineral laced red fruits, iron, Spring violets and spiced plum. At $49.99, this Brunello truly has it all…
One of the few remaining wineries in Montalcino that’s owned and farmed by a Montalcino born family, La Rasina was founded nearly 1/2 century ago. The Estate shows a palpable dedication to excellence which is obvious in a glass of this stunning 2013 Brunello. Further refined in oak barrels for two years, the 2013 enters from another outstanding vintage in Montalcino and one the Wine Spectator describes as producing, “balanced Brunellos with vibrant structures.” I highly recommend a case of this classic and high-scoring Brunello.

From James Suckling: “A wealth of ripe fruit with spice, tobacco, cedar and plum aromas that follow through to a full body, chewy and dense tannins and a ripe and delicious finish. A solid and stoic young red. Give it three or four years to soften. Made from organic grapes.” 96 Points

2013 Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello Di Montalcino
LIVIO SASSETTI
2013 PERTIMALI
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
If you could only drink only one Brunello di Montalcino, what would it be? Robert Parker wrote “it would have to be Pertimali.” The only problem is they’re a microscopic Italian producer owning only 7 hectares (about 17 acres), and they’re highly-desired… That desire turns into more of a frenzy when Pertimali scores 98 Points like it has this vintage, and we don’t expect our allocation to last. Seldom do I taste a wine that’s so incredibly enthralling that it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up… This one did and Antonio Galloni wrote that Livio Sassetti is “One of Italy’s finest,” and they’ve been making hits since 1982… With the near perfect score this vintage, my only guarantee is that once you taste it, you will wish you bought more…
Absolutely hands-on in every way possible, each individual wine is hand-tended by Livio and his two sons. With attention to every detail, their Brunello has become a Sommelier favorite, gracing the Grand Award winning wine lists of Emeril Lagasse, Thomas Keller and many others as well… Because of the minuscule production, there’s simply never enough of this wine to satisfy demand. I strongly recommend securing your case, before this one runs out…
